Spotify Now Available in South Africa!

Up until now one of your only legitimate (and reliable) sources of online music in South Africa has been iTunes, but that has all changed with the recent launch of the Spotify Music Service in SA. This immensely popular service has more than 1.5 million users around the globe and offers a free ad-supported service as well as an ad-free paid for premium service for only R59.99* per month. This in our opinion will revolutionise the way people in South Africa listen to music as it means that Spotify (and therefore music) is now available to everyone.

Spotify for the Uninitiated

Spotify is a unique music service that not only allows you to listen to all of your favourite tunes, but also allows you to browse old favourites, discover new music, curate your personal playlists, and build an enviable music collection of any size. It has more than 35 million songs on it, all of which are available to both free and premium listeners. Here in SA it will offer both local and overseas current favourites as well as a massive back catalogue of older music. This includes South African Hip Hop Juice, Top Hits, House Nation and iGqom Le to name but a few. Spotify MD Michael Krause had this to say about the local launch:

“Spotify is very excited to announce our launch in South Africa. We have had the continent in our sights for a while and are finally able to offer South African fans access to all the music they already love on Spotify, while helping them to enjoy, discover and share new music from both local and international artists simply and easily.”

An Ever Increasing Music Community

Spotify’s music catalogue is continuously updated and added to, which will help ensure that there is always new music to listen to. Additionally, users of the App can enjoy millions of fan-built playlists put together by global and local Spotify users, all of which will cater to any music taste or mood that might strike. Additionally, Spotify is available on PlayStation Music, which means you can play games and listen to your favourite music without having to interrupt the game (Spotify can be accessed using the PlayStation Quick Menu).

If you are interested in trying out the Spotify App on Android or iOS, then simply go to the relevant app store and download it. Alternatively you can download it for your PlayStation 4 at the PlayStation Store. Lastly you can visit www.spotify.com to download the relevant version of the Spotify App that you are looking for, or to find out more information.
