Fibre Infrastructure Operators in SA

Fibre Infrastructure Operators in SA

MacroLan is now part of Seacom and a major player in the South African Fibre Infrastructure Industry, which all started off as the Parkhurst fibre project in 2014. But before we go into more detail about the Fibre Infrastructure Operators here in South Africa, let’s take a look at the expansion history of Fibre Networks over the last 4 years.

From Parkhurst in 2014 to Across the Nation in 2018

From the moment Vumatel was appointed to provide fibre connectivity in the Parkhurst Project in 2014 there has been an ever increasing demand for fibre in the residential fixed-line market. The growth in this field has been astronomical, with fibre networks being made available in middle-class neighbourhoods and security complexes and no longer being the domain of the affluent. In fact, this ever expanding network of fibre optics has started to expand into lower-income township areas, with the planning stages of its roll-out in Alexandra Township already complete.

Fibre-to-the-Home Operators in 2018

When looking at the number of Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) Operators in South Africa, things are not as simple as they might seem. This is because the FTTX Council in South Africa does not maintain an overall count of operators at this point in time. The reason for this is that they don’t look at fibre in isolation, but as an entire industry.

A proper count of Infrastructure Operators done by us however has highlighted over 30 companies, (including us as part of Seacom) as well as networks which only operate in specific neighbourhoods. For your convenience we’ve included a list of them below.
